Tiv Monarch Decries Killing of 67 Subjects in Benue

The paramount ruler of the Tiv people in Benue State, Tor Tiv V, Professor James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of 67 of his subjects by suspected herdsmen. Describing the incident as a devastating loss, the monarch called for urgent action to address the persistent security challenges in the region.

In a statement, Tor Tiv emphasized the gravity of the ongoing violence, which has left many communities in Benue State vulnerable to attacks. He appealed to the Nigerian government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect the lives and properties of citizens across the country, irrespective of their ethnic or cultural affiliations.

“This is a tragic and unacceptable situation. The loss of 67 lives in such a manner highlights the urgent need for effective security interventions to end the cycle of violence in our communities,” Tor Tiv stated.

The ruler also urged all stakeholders, including community leaders, to promote peaceful coexistence and dialogue among various groups as a means to prevent further bloodshed. He stressed that fostering understanding and unity among communities was critical to achieving long-term peace in the state and beyond.
