Borno Gov Zulum Subsidizes Petrol for Farmers, Distributes Inputs

Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has announced a petrol subsidy to support irrigation farmers in communities affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. The subsidy reduces the price of petrol from its current market rate of N1,000 to N1,200 per liter to N600 per liter, providing much-needed relief to farmers grappling with high fuel costs.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to alleviate the economic and infrastructural challenges faced by communities recovering from years of conflict. Governor Zulum emphasized that the subsidy would ease the financial burden on farmers and help boost agricultural productivity.

In addition to the petrol subsidy, over 5,000 farmers displaced by the insurgency in Bama town received agricultural inputs to aid in their recovery. The distributed items included:

Fertilizers: 2,000 bags of blended NPK fertilizer

Water Pumps: 1,000 units of water pumps and 620 petrol pumps

Solar Water Pumps: 380 units

Sprayers and Hoses: 1,000 sprayers and 800 rolls of 2-inch flexible hoses

Insecticides and Seeds: 1,000 liters of insecticides and various seeds

“This initiative is a testament to our commitment to rebuilding livelihoods and restoring hope in communities devastated by insurgency,” Zulum stated during the distribution ceremony.
