CAN Urges FG to Prioritize Food Security Amid Rising Concerns

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the Federal Government to make food security a top priority, citing growing concerns over inflation, disruptions in the food supply chain, and the impact on the well-being of citizens.

In a statement, CAN underscored the urgency of the situation, emphasizing that access to food is a fundamental human right that must not be compromised.

“Food security is a basic human right, and the government has a responsibility to ensure that every Nigerian has access to adequate food,” the association stated.

CAN outlined several recommendations for tackling food insecurity, including increased support for farmers, investments in agricultural infrastructure, and measures to reduce inflation. The association also highlighted the disproportionate burden food insecurity places on vulnerable groups, such as the poor, widows, and orphans.

“The most vulnerable in our society bear the greatest burden of food insecurity. It is essential that the government acts decisively to protect these groups and strengthen our food systems,” CAN added.

The association’s appeal is a bid to push the government toward implementing policies that will ensure sustainable food systems and improve the lives of citizens nationwide.
