Two Farmers Killed in Violent Clash with Herdsmen in Gombe

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the Federal Government to make food security a top priority, citing growing concerns over inflation, disruptions in the food supply chain, and the impact on the well-being of citizens.

The violence reportedly began on Monday when herders allegedly robbed a farmer in Kalindi village of his motorcycle. While locals managed to recover the stolen motorcycle, the situation escalated. On Wednesday, herders attacked the villages, setting farm produce ablaze and killing one person each in Powushi and Kalindi.

Residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the response of security forces, accusing them of arriving only after the attack had been reported and failing to take decisive action.

Similar clashes have been reported in neighboring states such as Adamawa and Borno, raising concerns about the need for proactive measures to address the root causes of these disputes.

Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement on the incident, but the deaths in Gombe add to the mounting toll from this persistent conflict, which continues to threaten peace and stability in affected communities.
