Former Flight Attendant Earns $28,000 in Two Months as a Pig Farmer in China

A former flight attendant from China has earned 200,000 yuan (US$28,000) in just two months after leaving her job and returning home to become a pig farmer.

Yang Yanxi, 27, from Heilongjiang province, made the bold decision to quit her job with a Shanghai airline after five years. Her monthly salary had been just 2,800 yuan (US$380) during tough times for the company.

Yang’s decision to change careers was driven by her concern for her family’s financial struggles. She discovered that her mother had secretly undergone several surgeries to remove lipomas and realized her parents had been in debt supporting her.

In October 2022, she returned home to support her family and, by April 2023, began raising pigs on a relative’s farm.

Yang’s journey has been followed by nearly 1.2 million followers on a popular Chinese short video platform, where she shares her rural lifestyle, from caring for the pigs to interacting with them while dressed in stylish dresses. Despite the physical strain, including back and waist pain, she remains committed to her new career.

Her story has attracted attention on social media, with many praising her dedication to her family and her willingness to pursue an unconventional path.

Despite facing challenges, including an injury in January, Yang has continued her work and looks forward to expanding her farm and launching new business ventures.
