LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO FOOD SECURITY

The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring food security in the state. This was stated by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Abimbola Ademola, who emphasized the state’s efforts to increase food production and reduce reliance on imports

The state government is adopting a multi-pronged approach to achieve food security, with a focus on urban farming, support for farmers, and implementation of large-scale agricultural projects. Urban farming is being promoted, with residents encouraged to grow their own food in backyards and community gardens. This initiative is expected to not only increase food production but also promote a culture of self-sufficiency and sustainability.

The government is providing support to farmers, including subsidies, training, and access to credit facilities. This is aimed at empowering farmers to increase their productivity and efficiency, and to adopt modern farming techniques. The state is also implementing various agricultural projects, including the Lagos Mega Farms and the Aquaculture Project, which are expected to contribute significantly to the state’s food production efforts.

The commissioner emphasized that the state’s efforts aim to increase food production, create jobs, and improve the overall well-being of residents. By ensuring food security, the state government hopes to contribute to the health, prosperity, and quality of life of its citizens.
