NAQS launches export certification platform to improve rate of agricultural exports

The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) has launched the Export Certification Value Chain (ECVC) for 30 agricultural commodities as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural export sector and improve access to international markets.

The initiative is designed to simplify export processes, reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks and enhance efficiency in the certification of agricultural produce meant for export. Through the ECVC, NAQS will streamline and digitise certification procedures to ensure that Nigerian agricultural products meet required international standards and regulations.

NAQS said the platform will significantly reduce processing time for export documentation, improve transparency and make it easier for exporters to navigate regulatory requirements. The development is expected to boost agricultural exports, increase foreign exchange earnings and support overall economic growth.

The service also noted that the ECVC will create new opportunities for stakeholders, including small and medium-sized enterprises and youth-led businesses, by lowering barriers to entry into the export market. According to NAQS, a more efficient and accessible certification system will enable more young people and emerging exporters to participate in global agricultural trade.

The ECVC is a key component of NAQS’ efforts to enhance Nigeria’s global market presence and increase the country’s competitiveness in the international agricultural trade. By ensuring compliance with international phytosanitary and quality standards, the agency said the initiative will help position Nigeria as a reliable source of high-quality agricultural products and expand its share of global exports.
