Farmers in Akure North cry out for help as bandit attacks escalate

By Dayo Thomas –

Agricnews Digest has received distressing reports from farmers in Akure North, Ondo State, who are living in fear of bandit attacks. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the farmers revealed that their lives are under constant threat as bandits continue to attack and kill people in their farms.

“We are living in fear, and it’s getting worse by the day,” one farmer said. “We can’t go to our farms without worrying about our safety. We’ve lost count of the number of people killed by these bandits.”

The farmers appealed to the government and security agencies to intervene and put an end to the attacks. “We need protection to farm and feed our families. We can’t continue to live like this,” another farmer added.

The plight of Akure North farmers is a stark reminder of the security challenges facing Nigeria’s agricultural sector. With many farmers abandoning their farms due to insecurity, food production and the nation’s economy are likely to suffer.

Agricnews Digest calls on authorities to take immediate action to protect farmers and ensure a safe environment for agricultural activities to thrive. The government must prioritise the safety of farmers and provide the necessary support to boost agricultural production.
