Ondo Deep Sea Port: A game-changer for agriculture and trade in Nigeria

The Ondo Deep Sea Port is a strategic infrastructure project set to revolutionise agriculture and trade in Nigeria. The Federal Government has revalidated the port’s certificate, positioning it as a key driver of trade, industrialisation, and non-oil exports.

The port’s Atlantic-facing location gives it immense strategic importance, enabling it to handle large cargo vessels and facilitate import-export activities. This will significantly boost agricultural trade and commerce in Ondo State, making it an attractive hub for farmers, traders, and investors. The state is already prioritising critical supporting infrastructure, including dualising access roads to industrial zones and modernising key projects.

Agriculture is a major sector in Ondo State, with 60% of its labour force engaged in farming and 80% of its land arable. The state is a leading producer of cocoa, cassava, and oil palm, offering significant opportunities for investment. The Ondo Deep Sea Port is expected to drive economic growth, create jobs, and increase revenue for both the state and federal governments.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has pledged to deliver the port before the end of his administration, emphasising its potential to transform Ondo State’s economy.

The port is expected to attract foreign direct investment, improve logistics efficiency, and boost non-oil exports, making it a true game-changer for Nigeria’s economy.
