Kwara State Empowers Livestock Farmers to Boost Food Security

Kwara State is making significant strides in food security, particularly in livestock farming. The state government, in collaboration with the World Bank and other organizations, has launched several initiatives to train and empower livestock farmers. One notable initiative is the training of 100 livestock farmers on commercial fodder production and value chain addition, aiming to enhance livestock productivity and reduce farmer-herder conflicts.

The Kwara State Government has also trained 70 youth in livestock farming under the Federal Government’s TVET Initiative, with 40 focusing on poultry production and 30 on animal husbandry. Additionally, the state has distributed farm inputs to 3,000 farmers to boost food sufficiency and promote livestock development. These efforts are part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration’s commitment to improving food security and agricultural development in Kwara State

The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) is another significant initiative that has trained 700 farmers and extension agents. L-PRES aims to improve livestock productivity, strengthen resilience, and enhance value chain performance. The project has also provided tangible benefits, including improved pasture development, enhanced animal health services, and increased opportunities for farmers, processors, women, and youth entrepreneurs.
