Sasakawa Africa Association Empowers 40,000 Farmers with Climate-Smart Techniques

The Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) is making significant strides in enhancing food security in Niger State by training 40,000 maize and soybean farmers on climate-smart agriculture techniques. This initiative is part of a broader project aimed at promoting sustainable farming practices, improving productivity, and strengthening market linkages for smallholder farmers.

The training program, which is being implemented in collaboration with the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), focuses on equipping farmers with practical knowledge on climate-smart agriculture, including techniques such as conservation agriculture, integrated soil fertility management, and crop diversification. The participants are also being trained on how to interpret seasonal rainfall predictions and align planting decisions with weather advisories

The project, which is expected to run for three years, targets 100,000 farmers across Niger and Kaduna states, with a focus on women and youth participation. By adopting climate-smart agriculture practices, these farmers are expected to improve their yields, reduce production risks, and enhance their competitiveness in the market.
