Farmers Return to Fields as Security Improves in Sokoto

Farmers in Sokoto State are gradually returning to their farms following improved security measures. The Nigerian military, in collaboration with other security agencies, has conducted clearance operations against bandits in Sokoto and Kebbi States, boosting farmers’ confidence to resume farming activities.

The Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Sokoto State Chapter, Jamilu Muhammad, confirmed that farmers are engaging in massive dry season farming, with some even investing heavily in their farms. Improved security has also been reported in Kebbi State, where farmers are returning to their fields with hopes for a better harvest.

While the situation is improving, some areas still face challenges. The US airstrike in December 2025, targeting suspected ISIS camps, caused fear and displacement among local communities. Despite reassurances from officials, some residents remain anxious, and unexploded ordnance remains a concern.
