OGUN STATE LAUNCHES MASS VACCINATION DRIVE TO PROTECT LIVESTOCK

Ogun State has embarked on an ambitious mass vaccination drive, targeting 200,000 animals to combat transboundary animal diseases (TADs) that pose significant threats to livestock and public health. The collaborative effort between the state and federal governments aims to safeguard animal health, enhance food security, and reduce economic losses due to animal diseases

The vaccination campaign focuses on protecting animals against deadly diseases such as anthrax, rabies, and Newcastle disease. Dr. Taiwo Jolaoso, Director of Ogun State Veterinary Services, emphasized that the exercise is a preventive measure to ensure animal health and public safety. The federal government has donated essential vaccines, including anti-rabies, Newcastle disease, and Peste des petit Ruminants (PPR) vaccines, to support the initiative.

The vaccination drive is part of a broader strategy to improve livestock productivity, enhance food security, and promote economic growth in Ogun State. By protecting animals from diseases, the state aims to reduce economic losses and improve the livelihoods of farmers and livestock producers.
