Protest Rocks Ondo Over Killing of Faers

Dayo Thomas

Protests have erupted in Ondo State, Nigeria, following the killing of farmers by suspected gunmen. The latest incident occurred in Akure North Local Government Area, where one farmer was killed, sparking outrage among locals. This isn’t an isolated incident; in April 2025, four farmers were murdered in the same area, and over 20 farmers have been killed in the past seven months

The Southern Nigeria Youth Congress (SNYC) has condemned the attacks, urging Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to take decisive action to protect farmers and ensure justice for the victims. Residents are demanding increased security measures, particularly in rural areas, to prevent further attacks

The state government has deployed tactical teams to restore order, and the police have vowed to arrest the perpetrators. However, locals are calling for more proactive measures to address the rising insecurity in the state.
