Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has earmarked N70 billion for agriculture in the 2025 budget, aptly titled the “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo.” This historic allocation represents a significant step toward achieving food sufficiency in the state.

The initial budget, pegged at N605 billion, was revised to N675 billion to accommodate this increased funding for agriculture. The governor described the allocation as a cornerstone of his administration’s strategy to transform the agricultural sector and improve food production in the state.

Key Focus Areas:

1. Agricultural Revolution: Investments will be directed toward modernizing farming practices through farm mechanization and the establishment of advanced irrigation systems.

2. Food Production: The initiative prioritizes large-scale cultivation of staple crops such as rice, maize, and cassava to meet local demand and reduce dependency on imports.

3. Infrastructural Development: Funds will also support the construction and rehabilitation of rural infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and storage facilities, to improve access to markets and reduce post-harvest losses.

Governor Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to making Edo State a model of agricultural productivity and self-sufficiency. “This allocation underscores our determination to ensure food security and enhance the livelihoods of our citizens,” he said.

The substantial budgetary provision underscores a broader vision to position Edo State as a leader in agricultural innovation and a hub for sustainable development.
