Lawmakers Urge Action as FG Unveils Initiative to Tackle Farmers-Herders Clashes

Lawmakers have called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps to address the ongoing farmers-herders clashes, which have led to the loss of lives and property across the country.

The recurring conflict between herders and farmers has prompted stakeholders to urge the government to declare a state of emergency to mitigate the crisis.

In response, the Federal Government has announced the Pulaku Initiative, a comprehensive resettlement program designed to provide lasting solutions to the conflict.

 The program aims to address the root causes of the clashes and promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders. The initiative is set to be unveiled in February 2025, according to government sources.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has also called on the government to establish alternative grazing reserves and livestock routes to reduce friction between herders and farmers.

 The group emphasized that providing designated areas for herders would help prevent encroachment on farmlands and foster harmonious relationships.
