FG to Tackle Unemployment, Food Insecurity,  Launches Youth Farmers Enrollment Portal

The Federal Government has launched the Youth Farmers Enrollment Portal, an initiative aimed at addressing unemployment and food insecurity while empowering Nigerian youths through agriculture.

The Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, announced the initiative during a ceremony in Abuja, highlighting its potential to create economic opportunities and transform the agricultural sector.

“This intervention is designed to align young people with the economic agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, promoting active youth participation in economic development,” Olawande stated.

The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalisation Programme (NIYEEDEP), aims to generate six million direct jobs for youths in 2025 across the agriculture, food and beverage, and agro-allied sectors. It also seeks to tackle youth unemployment, household poverty, and food insecurity—issues the Minister identified as threats to national security.

The portal targets individuals aged 18 to 35, offering access to agricultural training programs, modern farming techniques, mentorship, financial support, and resources to start or expand agricultural ventures.

“This initiative is not just about increasing food production; it is about empowering young Nigerians with sustainable skills, creating jobs in rural and urban areas, and ensuring the welfare and security of our citizens,” Olawande explained.
