Abuja to host International Conference on Organic Farming, Habitat Connectivity in May 2026

Abuja will host the International Conference on Organic Farming and Habitat Connectivity (ICOFHC) on May 5, 2026, bringing together farmers, researchers, policymakers and other stakeholders to advance discussions on sustainable agriculture and the promotion of organic farming in Nigeria.

The conference is being organised by the Organic and Agroecology Initiative of Nigeria (ORAIN), an organisation focused on promoting eco-friendly farming practices and addressing soil degradation linked to the excessive use of chemical inputs.

According to the organisers, the event will provide a platform for experts to highlight the importance of organic farming in ensuring food safety, protecting public health and safeguarding the environment. Discussions will centre on strategies for expanding market platforms to enhance both local and export trade in organic agricultural produce.

Participants are also expected to call on the government to strengthen policy support for organic farming, while farmers and agripreneurs will showcase organic products and innovations aimed at improving productivity and sustainability across the agricultural value chain.

The conference aligns with Nigeria’s National Organic and Agroecology Standards, launched in 2024, which provide guidelines for organic production, processing and certification. Organisers say the event represents a key step towards deepening the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices and strengthening Nigeria’s organic farming sector.
