Kogi launches world-class veterinary hospital under World Bank Project

Kogi State has flagged off the construction of a world-class model veterinary hospital under the World Bank-supported Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project. The hospital is part of the L-PRES initiative, which aims to improve livestock productivity, commercialisation, and resilience across Nigeria.

The project also includes the construction of five model slaughterhouses in Kogi State, focusing on improved hygiene standards, enhanced food safety, and the formalisation of meat markets. In addition, the L-PRES Project is establishing a Livestock Service Centre in Kogi, which will feature a state-of-the-art animal reference and diagnostic hospital, a modern automated poultry production system, an artificial insemination centre, and breeding facilities.

The initiative is expected to boost livestock health, productivity, and food security in Kogi State and beyond. The World Bank has approved the establishment of 20 model veterinary hospitals across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones, with seven already under construction in Sokoto, Niger, Enugu, Ondo, Borno, Adamawa, and Edo states.
