Olubadan Bans Open Cattle Grazing in Ibadan Amid Rising Insecurity

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, has declared open cattle grazing “illegal and prohibited” in Ibadanland and Oyo State, citing growing concerns over attacks on farmers, destruction of farmlands, and insecurity. This decisive move is a direct response to the escalating tensions between farmers and herders, which have resulted in loss of lives, property, and livelihoods.

The ban is a welcome relief to the Ijaye Farm Settlers Association, who have been at the receiving end of these attacks. Pastor David Olatunji, chairman of the association, expressed gratitude for the Olubadan’s support and urged residents to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies. The Olubadan’s warning that anyone caught violating this ban will be arrested and prosecuted underscores the seriousness of the situation.

In a stern reminder to traditional leaders, the Olubadan emphasized the need for vigilance and ensuring the security of lives and property in their domains. He warned that negligence could attract sanctions, highlighting the critical role traditional leaders play in maintaining peace and order in their communities.
