Nigerian Army Boosts Kebbi State Security with Forest Guards Deployment

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, has taken a significant step to enhance security in Kebbi State by operationalising the deployment of forest guards in Arewa Local Government Area. The Nigerian Army has donated logistics support to the forest guards, including 10 brand-new motorcycles, 170 sleeping kits, and essential food supplies, aimed at improving their mobility, welfare, and operational effectiveness in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to integrate community-based security structures into Nigeria’s counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations. The forest guards will operate under the control of the Nigerian Army, ensuring coordination with military operations. The Kebbi State government has also recruited 819 forest guards to protect forest reserves and curb criminal activities. The guards underwent rigorous military-style training to equip them with skills to counter banditry and insurgency.

The deployment of forest guards is a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Army, the Kebbi State government, and local communities. The initiative aims to improve security in the state and protect citizens from the scourge of banditry and terrorism. With the donated logistics support, the forest guards are expected to be more effective in their operations, providing a safer environment for the people of Kebbi State.
