Nigeria Launches Initiative to Empower Youth in Agribusiness

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), has launched the Youth Agribusiness Land Trust Fund (YALTF) to tackle youth unemployment and boost food security. This ambitious initiative aims to train over 6 million young Nigerians in agriculture and agribusiness, equipping them with the skills and resources needed to succeed in the sector.

The programme will leverage the 42 National Youth Development Centres across the country, transforming them into agribusiness innovation hubs. These hubs will provide young people with access to land, digital farming tools, and climate-resilient agricultural practices, enabling them to acquire practical skills, launch enterprises, and connect with markets and investors.

The initiative is expected to strengthen food security, revitalise rural communities, and expand economic opportunities for millions of young Nigerians. With agriculture contributing 22.7% of Nigeria’s GDP and employing about 60% of the workforce, this programme has the potential to make a significant impact on the country’s economy
