Tinubu: Food Prices Easing, Relief Reaching Households

At the All Progessive Congress” national convention in Abuja at the weekend, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu told delegates that food prices are easing and households are beginning to feel gradual relief. He credited the shift to reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that logistics, input supply and market interventions are starting to show up in lower prices on staple goods.

A ₦250 billion credit line for smallholder farmers, paired with transport and input reforms, has aimed at cutting delays and costs for seeds, fertiliser and harvest delivery. At the same time, a “safe passage” directive targets illegal checkpoints and levies that inflate food haulage costs, while action against grain cartels has helped stabilise markets. The rollout of 2,000 tractors for mechanised farming, plus ranching reforms to replace open grazing, seeks to raise output and reduce supply disruptions. Investment incentives and a time-limited food-import regime round out the mix, intended to bridge short-term needs while local production scales.
