Agric Expert Urges Okun Farmers to Plant Palm and Coconut

AgricNews Digest

As the rains return to Kogi West, a leading agribusiness advocate is calling on Okun farmers to take immediate action and invest in palm and coconut plantations, describing the current season as “the perfect window” for long-term agricultural wealth.

In a message to farmers across Okunland this morning, Otunba Iyara Farms And Garden Ltd, said nature itself has provided the ideal conditions for planting, and waiting for a “better time” would mean missing a critical opportunity.

“My Okun people, good morning to you all. This is the right time to take action. The rainy season has begun and nature itself is giving you the perfect support to start your palm and coconut plantation. Don’t wait for a ‘better time’ this is the better time,” the statement read.

The farm noted that while starting a plantation can feel daunting due to concerns about capital, land preparation, and the long gestation period, every successful plantation admired today began with one decision: to plant.

According to the management of Otunba Iyara Farms, palm and coconut should be viewed beyond seasonal farming. They are long-term assets capable of sustaining families and generating income for decades.
“Palm and coconut are not just crops they are long-term assets. What you plant this year can feed you, support your family, and generate steady income for decades. While others hesitate, those who take action now are quietly building their future,” it stated.

The farm acknowledged that the early years require patience, as farmers will not see immediate returns. However, it emphasized that growth is happening underground with roots developing and strength building and that the effort invested today will yield visible results in a few years.
Farmers were advised not to be limited by fear, doubt, or procrastination. Instead, they were encouraged to start small but start right by clearing land, sourcing quality seedlings, and planting now.
A few years from now, you’ll either wish you started today… or be grateful that you did. The rain is here. The soil is ready. The opportunity is now,” the statement concluded.

Otunba Iyara Farms And Garden Ltd, located at Km 18 Kabba-Omuo Road, Iyara, Ijumu LGA, Kogi State says it is available to provide guidance and quality seedlings to interested farmers.
